Saturday 7:30 AM. Spring Bird Walk with Brian Kane. Brian is an associate professor of commercial arboriculture at UMass Amherst, and he is passionate about bird watching. He is the author of a scholarly study on tree-cavity-dwelling birds. Meet at parking lot at Jug End State Reservation. Free.

Saturday, 10 AM. Riverside Wildflower and Plants Walk with Stephanie Bergman, who holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. Carpooling is encouraged. Meet at ELT property (a field) on Rt. 71 which is .8 miles north/west on Rt 71 from the N. Egremont Store. You’ll see our ELT sign on a post there, on the right. Pull well off the road to park. Free.

Sunday noon. Annual benefit Spring Luncheon at the Old Mill Restaurant in South Egremont. Members will receive invitations. Guest speakers will be Jenny Hansell, new president of Berkshire Natural Resources Council, and Will Conklin of Greenagers.

June 3

Sunday, 9 am. Invasives Plant Walk with Patrick Riordan. Patrick, an Egremont resident, is a 2018 graduate of Berkshire Botanical Garden Level I Horticultural Certificate program. Meet at French Park, North Egremont. Free.

June 20

Wednesday 5 pm. Come celebrate the dedication of Egremont's Community Garden in French Park in North Egremont. The Garden was a collaborative effort with Greenagers who built the Garden's 8 raised beds, the 12 local businesses who sponsored it (ELT is a sponsor), and the Town who offered it a home. Each bed will be given to an income eligible family from Egremont for home-based food growing. If you or someone you know would be interested in cultivating a bed, contact Lucinda Vermeulun of Kenver’s in South Egremont at 528-2330.

Sept. 8

Saturday 11 AM. Annual, free, nature-oriented event with speaker Tom Tyning on “Why Frogs and Turtles Love Egremont”, at French Park, North Egremont. Our annual meeting (see event below) will follow this presentation.

Tom received both his BS (Wildlife Biology) and MS (Organismic and Evolutionary Biology) from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), where he focused on the biology and conservation of the timber rattlesnake. Since 1999, he has been a Professor of Environmental Science at Berkshire Community College. Prior to that, he was a Field Biologist and Master Naturalist for the Massachusetts Audubon Society for 24 years.

Tom operates a rehabilitation center for a variety of raptors at his home in Conway, MA, and he will bring several birds to show us. Saturday, 10 AM. Invasives walk and lecture by Bryan Hamlin. Meet at French Park pavilion, N. Egremont (rain date: Oct 15, same time & place). Bryan Hamlin has a PhD in biochemistry and is the former President of the New England Botanical Club. Bryan will talk about what is meant by 'invasive plants', why they need to be taken seriously, and what might be done to combat them.

Saturday, 11:00 am Rain or Shine - ELT will present an informative, nature-oriented event for all ages at French Park, North Egremont. All are welcome. Our program this year is Rhonda's Reptiles. Rhonda, from New Lebanon, NY, provides reptile rescue for lizards, snakes and turtles in need of a forever-home. The animals that she will bring have been handled on a regular basis and are used to people. Our annual meeting (see event below) will follow this presentation.

Saturday -  Fall Walk  led by Dave Johnson, chair of Egremont Conservation Commission. We will leave from French Park parking lot on Prospect Lake Road after our ELT Annual Meeting and the lunch. We will walk on the new trail, called Sidewalk in the Woods , that runs parallel to Prospect Lake Road.
