We are sad to write that Lois Ginsberg, past Vice President of Egremont Land Trust, passed away on February 13, 2020.
Lois’ commitment to conserving land in Egremont began in the late 1980’s when a developer bought the bankrupt Jug End Resort (1200 acres) and wanted to put a major housing development there . An organization called Egremont Environmental Action, whose slogan was “Keep Egremont Small and Beautiful,” was formed to block the development. After the developer went bankrupt, Lois was instrumental in forming Egremont Land Trust in 1998 as the next step beyond EEA.
Lois and her husband, Arthur, conserved 68 acres of their property on Jug End Road in 1994. They divided their time between Egremont and New York City. A former supervisor of Special Education in New York City, Lois was a member of ELT since its inception, was the Membership Chair for over 6 years, and was Vice President from 2006 until 2017. She organized ELT’s annual luncheons for many years.
Egremont Land Trust is grateful for Lois’ commitment and for her years of service to ELT. We shall miss her very much.
